New South Wales property owners can register their unwanted agricultural and veterinary chemicals for Agsafe’s ChemClear upcoming collection in March.
The agvet chemical waste program encourages farmers and other agvet chemical users to clean up their farms and chemical stores to ensure sound environmental practices, and register unused and unknown chemicals for collection and safe disposal. Farmers and growers have until 19 February to register their unwanted or obsolete chemicals online at www.chemclear.org.au or on the ChemClear free call number 1800 008 182.
Waste holders have until mid-February to book their unwanted chemicals online or with the ChemClear hotline, and all registered users will be notified of collection locations and dates in their council area by early June.
Agsafe General Manager Dominique Doyle encourages farmers to take an inventory of their agvet chemicals to register for the program. “The easiest way to get organised is to head out to your sheds with pen and paper, take an inventory of all the surplus and unknown chemicals, then contact ChemClear or head to our online registration portal and register them before mid-February,” she said.
When taking an inventory, ChemClear requires the name of the product, manufacturer, container size and the remaining quantity in the container to enable a registration. If the container has no label on it, ChemClear requires the size of the container, whether it is a powder, granule or liquid and the remaining quantity in the container. Chemical containers displaying the drumMUSTER logo are eligible for free collection. Agvet containers without the logo or are unlabeled, expired, mixed or from non-participating manufacturers, are designated fee-for-service products incurring a per L/kg fee for disposal. A quote will be supplied for fee-for-service chemicals before collection.
